Duties

  • Serve as a principal coordinator for the aquatics and habitat management, wildlife management, threatened and endangered species, weed management, assessment inventory and monitoring, and native plants programs.
  • Provide district offices with policy direction, technical guidance, and assistance regarding their inventory, planning, construction and maintenance, permitting, and management efforts and activities.
  • Negotiate and develop memoranda of understanding with interested stakeholders regarding cooperative natural resource efforts on public lands.
  • Provide leadership in the development of an annual work plan and budget, including developing recommendations for program funding.
  • Coordinate with records management staff to ensure program files are maintained in accordance with federal standards.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Basic Requirement and the Additional Qualification Requirement described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. A copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.

Basic Requirement:
A. Successfully completed a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Note: You must submit your transcripts.

OR

B. A combination of education and experience. This includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: You must submit your transcripts.

AND

Additional Qualification Requirement:

Have at least one full year of specialized experience serving in various roles that provide technical guidance to principal staff on bioscience programs. This must include activities such as: (1) serving as an advisor on all components of aquatics and habitat management, wildlife management, threatened and endangered species, and native plants programs; (2) recommending innovative solutions to solve natural resource management problems, issues, or projects; (3) developing and/or negotiating a memorandum of understanding with interested stakeholders regarding natural resource efforts on public lands; and (4) providing guidance in the development of an organization's annual workplan and/or budget. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service and/or private sector.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of all your transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position, you must provide official transcripts prior to appointment.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Graduate Education: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

Physical Demands: Physical activity is primarily that typical of office work. Substantial time is spent sitting at a computer terminal. Occasional field visits are required to look at sites and areas under study, and may include the need to hike, or boat in undeveloped conditions. The incumbent may be required to secure any necessary credentials and/or safety certifications to complete these activities as a part of their official duties.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in an office setting, except for occasional field visits. Generally, the work environment involves ordinary apparel, health, and safety considerations. Work is usually done individually or in small groups, but sometimes involves large groups and public events that occur outside of business hours in the evenings and weekends.
