MAJOR FUNCTIONS:Under the strategic direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling COMPANY 'S financial operations and related activities, including but not limited to, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, investor relationships/partnerships, compliance, billing, accounts payable/receivables, collections, tax, and financial reporting. The CFO is also responsible for anticipating, managing, and evaluating COMPANY 's financial performance. The CFO continually reviews and assesses processes, systems, and accounting staff roles and responsibilities, and recommends and implements actions to improve efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and improve customer service. The CFO is a member of COMPANY 's Senior Management Team (SMT) and works collaboratively with the CAO to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and operations. The CFO support COMPANY 's Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives by helping to translate its organizational vision for DE&I into organization-wide planning, systems and policies that are designed, implemented, and regularly reviewed for equity and inclusion. BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Financial OperationsProvides leadership, oversight, and guidance for COMPANY 's financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, audits, grant management, payroll, AR/AP, treasury/investments, internal controls, budgets, financial systems, and investments.Plans, develops, organizes implements, directs, and evaluates COMPANY 's financial operations, functions, and performance.Directs the preparation of the annual budget in collaboration with the CEO, Chapter Operations, Chapter Executive Directors, and other members of COMPANY 's SMT.Exhibits and promotes a standard of excellence in the performance of all duties and interactions with staff, senior leadership, colleagues, chapters, co-workers, and outside contactsMonitors and assesses organizational investments to meet COMPANY 's operating needs.Monitors cash flow threshold requirements to meet COMPANY 's operating needs.Advises the CEO, SMT, officers and the Board of Directors (BOD) on COMPANY 's financial status.Meets regularly with stakeholders to provide fiscal direction and support to address operational issues and barriers.Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values a commitment to quality.Provides continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial goals and objectives and provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.ComplianceEnsures compliance with professional accounting standards, rules regulations and laws by directing, supervising, and facilitating the preparation and maintenance of required financial records, monthly and annual financial reports and all other financial reporting as may be required by federal, state, and local agencies.Assist the Office of General Counsel with the review and renewal of property and liability insurance coverage.Oversees annual audit(s), IRS 990, and other financial reporting requirements.Ensure effective internal controls are in place in accordance with GAAP, applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial reporting requirements.Oversees the preparation of all financial reports presented to the Board and to outside agencies.Evaluates work results and recommends personnel actions which affects subordinates such as Controller and the Director of Budgets and Treasury Operations.Oversees all work products completed within the department for the COMPANY Foundation (501c3), COMPANY (501c6) and related entitiesFunction as liaison for the COMPANY National Office in its relationships with various financial institutions, including investment houses and banks. Is responsible for making recommendations to the investment portfolios that meet the financial requirements of the Association within acceptable level of risk.Stays current with government regulations, GAAP, FASB, and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.Performs additional duties as requiredFinancial Systems:Provides guidance and oversight on the selection of accounting, finance, and other related software.Ensures effective maintenance of financial applications and the Association 's management system that impacts accounting.Is responsible for the selection, implementation, and effective use by staff of all accounting software packages.ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIESEducation & ExperienceMaster 's Degree from an accredited College or University in business, accounting, economics, finance, or a related field.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) accreditation required.Ten years of financial and budget management experience to include oversight of staff, strategic planning of long- and short-term priorities; compliance and audit reviews and resolutions.Experience working in a union environment (preferred).KnowledgeExtensive knowledge of GAAP, FASB and Sarbanes Oxley regulations and requirements.Demonstrated knowledge of accounting/financial rules and regulations (local, state, and federal) principles, methods, and best practices; strong people skills, including experience driving and managing successful strategic organizational change initiatives.Working knowledge of multiple financial accounting systems.Demonstrated knowledge of managing a multifunctional financial department.SkillsExceptional written and oral communication skills.Must have the ability to communicate technical financial matters effectively to non-financial managers including Board of Directors and Board committee members.Ability to lead and collaborate in an environment with competing interests and requirements.Ability to problem solve, exercise sound judgement, and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.Requires strong management and people skills, must have the ability to take ownership for issues and follow through to resolution.ATTRIBUTESResults Driven: Able to see the big picture, develop and monitor key performance metrics, and take appropriate risks so as to produce the desired results.
