Developer Productivity is a program within MAPBU focused on developer experiences that make it easier to create applications to be deployed on Kubernetes by leveraging Tanzu capabilities. You might like working with us if you: - Like working as a part of an empowered balanced team - Believe in Outcomes over Output - Prioritize equitable treatment, inclusivity, and diversity - Work with empathy and kindness - Believe in doing the right thing, and doing what works The Desktop Teamxe2x80x99s primary goals are: Developing IDE extensions which enhance developersxe2x80x99 ability to code, build, run, test, debug, observe, and troubleshoot applications running in Kubernetes Designing and build components of the personal developer supply chain Explore additional developer experiences such as cloud-based IDExe2x80x99s, desktop tools, etc. Learning and utilizing OSS projects in the Kubernetes ecosystem Collaborating with product management, design, and other engineering teams to create and implement the overall product vision Executing in an agile fashion, with quick iterations and adapting to user feedback Building a sustainable and kind work culture, and supporting each other's professional development What is the primary need or problem you will be responsible for? The Desktop Team manager will drive a team of 5+ engineers to effectively execute product strategy and balance priorities from other internal teamsxe2x80x99 needs. You will support and collaborate with the teamxe2x80x99s engineers, designers, and product management. You will collaborate closely with leadership to scale the team while maintaining a sustainable engineering process. What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? This is a somewhat hands-on, highly technical engineering role. However, as a manager, you are not expected to write code on a daily basis. Your highest priorities are supporting your team, ensuring proper execution, and on-time delivery. This involves enabling them to do their day-to-day job well and enabling them to grow and become better engineers. You will learn about and use Kubernetes and related cloud development tools You will explore different IDEs such as VS Code, IntelliJ, and cloud-based IDEs and discover ways to integrate them with Tanzu You will work with an evolving tech stack that includes TypeScript, Java, and Go You will collaborate with your team to develop, release, and maintain software for enterprise customers and community users You may also provide support to enterprise customers and field representatives and join an on-call rotation You will be expected to contribute your experience to improve our engineering process You will also spend time contributing to conversations with leadership about the size and scope of your team which could lead to interviewing and hiring additional engineers. The rest of your time will focus on the needs of the team as a group. This will vary from conducting one-on-one meetings and providing feedback and coaching, to conducting code reviews, to writing code as an individual contributor, to providing technical direction, to collaborating with cross functional leadership to balance project priorities, etc. What is the leadership like for this role? He has worked in MAPBU since February 2021. Prior to joining VMware, Brandon has experience leading teams in the Enterprise Retail Software and Automotive industries, Education, and Consulting.
