Job Announcement

Works as part of the Financial Office within the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC) and support its mission over a variety of areas. The primary function is to support the department's accounts payable, procurement card (p-card), revenue, and grant programs. Further duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists with travel and training requisition processing for the Financial Office.
  • Plans, organizes and performs monthly reconciliation of assigned revenues, and expenditures; and monitors and tracks activity for assigned departmental activities.
  • Ensures that financial records and reports are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and county requirements and regulations, and within generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Serves as the petty cash custodian and ensures that policy pertaining to petty cash management is followed when disbursing, reconciling and replenishing funds.
  • Serves as travel and administrative procurement card custodian and ensures that policy is followed when issuing cards and tracking disposition.
  • Prepares and makes bank deposits and is responsible for the JDRDC's revenue collection.
  • Communicates effectively in person, over the phone, and via e-mail with senior level management.
  • Assists with the development of the JDRDC's budget submission in addition to assisting with year-end and quarterly reviews.
  • Works successfully in a fast paced and dynamic team environment.
Note: This is a regular full-time (40-hour a week) position from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, some variation in hours may be considered based on workload requirements or emergency situations requiring the incumbent to report out of normal work hours.

  • Knowledge of accounting theories, bookkeeping, public budgeting, and grant administration;
  • General knowledge of laws ordinances and regulations governing municipal finance;
  • Ability to interpret automated financial reports and financial policies and procedures;
  • Ability to analyze revenue and expenses and make projections;
  • Ability to complete budget documents in accordance with the Department of Management and Budget.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field that has been supplemented by at least 6 credit hours of basic accounting principles and concepts.

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Administrative Assistant IV, or higher, level.

The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County

workforce. However, persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of purchasing rules, regulations, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for financial transactions and analysis.
  • Experience processing and tracking revenue and grants.
  • Experience with budget preparation.
  • Experience presenting data and information in a clear and concise manner to senior officials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, coordinate projects, analyze and interpret financial data and audit revenue and expenditure documents across various funding sources.
  • Strong research, spreadsheet development, writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must communicate with others. Employee may require to lift up to 15 pounds. Must be able to type on a keyboard. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
