Cyber Analytics, Director

At Capital One, we're building a leading information-based technology company. Still founder-led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fairbank, Capital One is on a mission to help our customers succeed by bringing ingenuity, simplicity, and humanity to banking. We measure our efforts by the success our customers enjoy and the advocacy they exhibit. We are succeeding because they are succeeding.

Guided by our shared values, we thrive in an environment where collaboration and openness are valued. We believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. Our associates serve with humility and a deep respect for their responsibility in helping our customers achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Together, we are on a quest to change banking for good.

Twenty-five years after Capital One was started it's still led by its founder. Be ready to join a community of the smartest people you've ever met, who see the customer first, and want to use their data skills to make a difference.

Cyber Analytics Leader
At Capital One, data is at the center of everything we do. When we launched as a startup we disrupted the credit card industry by individually personalizing every credit card offer using statistical modeling and the relational database, cutting edge technology in 1988! Fast-forward a few years, and this innovation and our passion for data has skyrocketed us to a Fortune 200 company and a leader in the world of data-driven decision-making.

As a Director for Cyber Analytics at Capital One, you will lead and manage teams that are leading the next wave of disruption in cyber risk quantification at a whole new scale, using the latest in cloud computing technologies as well as new and proven mathematical techniques, and operating across billions of transactions to unlock the big opportunities, enhance service performance, and identify areas of risk to be mitigated. Be ready to join a community of the smartest people you've ever met, who put the customer first, and want to use their data and modeling skills to make a difference.

On any given day, you'll be leading teams in:
  • Using Big Data platforms and tools such as AWS, Spark, Snowflake, Neptune, Python etc. to conduct the analysis of billions of records
  • Writing software scripts to wrangle and investigate large, messy data sets of numerical and textual data
  • Integrating with external data sources and APIs to discover interesting trends
  • Building analytics to identify key areas of risk and performance to help drive behavior and, where appropriate, building models for complex adaptive systems from development through testing and validation to production
  • Designing innovative data visualizations to communicate complex ideas to customers or company leaders
  • Investigating the impact of new technologies on the future of cybersecurity in digital banking and the financial world of tomorrow

The Ideal Candidate will be:
  • An excellent communicator at various levels, from executive communication to engineers
  • Curious. You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to lay out your disruptive ideas.
  • Comfortable with Technology. You probably know AWS, Python or R and you are constantly exploring new open source tools.
  • Data Wrangler. You know how to programmatically extract data from a database and an API, bring it through a transformation or two, and model it into human-readable form (ROC curve, d3 visualization, Tableau, Redash, Kibana, etc.).
  • Creative. Big, complex, nonlinear, undefined problems and petabytes of data don't frighten you. You are used to working with abstract data, and you love discovering new narratives in unmined territories.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7+ years of experience in data analytics
  • 3+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL
  • 3+ years of experience in Risk Management
  • 1+ years of experience with Tableau
  • 5+ years in people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Math)
  • 3+ years of experience in Cybersecurity
  • Professional Certifications (AWS Certified Solution Architect, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM))
  • 2+ years of experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis (Python, R)
  • 1+ years of experience with machine learning and simulation of complex adaptive systems
