Duties

  • You will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer (Assistant Watch Commander) with overall command and control responsibility for all law enforcement patrol desk, communications and administrative operation during assigned shift.
  • Assign work to be performed by employees in the unit and reviews work on a regular basis.
  • Maintain communications with mobile patrol units and posts and pass directions and information to subordinate law enforcement officers on patrol assignments.
  • Coordinate emergency responses between law enforcement, security, fire, and other emergency units.
  • Ensure proper response to various calls for law enforcement services at all levels (felony and misdemeanor) to include crimes in progress, citizen complaints, and emergency situations to include natural and manmade disasters.
  • Supervise investigations not referred to detectives in areas such as, but not limited to, thefts, assaults, illegal drug possession and domestic disputes.

  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires a one year Supervisory probationary period.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires that you submit to random urinalysis exams and sign a DA Form 5019 drug testing position form.
  • The selectee is required to carry a firearm and must remain proficient in the used of the assigned weapon.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and annual physical examinations.
  • This position requires successful completion of annual physical agility fitness tests.
  • This position requires selectee to obtain and maintain certification in the use of radar detection equipment.
  • This position requires selectee to obtain and maintain certification in the use of alcohol detection equipment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirement.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes law enforcement operations, practices and techniques to prevent, detect and investigate violations of law, rules and regulations; analyze emergency situations, and coordinate law enforcement activities, and interpret regulations to determine the enforcement of appropriate laws. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
