Duties

  • You will serve as the senior Preventive Medicine subject matter expert (SME) for developing and providing guidance for preventive medicine and environmental health programs to resolve complex problems across the Navy Medicine Enterprise.
  • You will provide leadership and expertise to ensure mission readiness through disease prevention, and health promotion in support of the National Military Strategy.
  • You will functions as the primary subject matter expert and as the agency representative on work groups and meetings with other Service and external public health agencies.
  • You will provide expert advice and consultative assistance to commanders and officials.
  • You will prepare and present briefs/executive summaries to senior management officials on results of studies and recommendations for further action.

  • You must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Up-to-date immunizations/vaccinations and a seasonal influenza required.
  • You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • You will be required to meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training for GP-14 Positions: Applicants must have successfully completed 4 years of graduate (i.e. Preventive Medicine residency) training or equivalent experience and training.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
  • Completion of a Preventive Medicine residency program approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible
  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Preventive Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required)
  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges
  • Board certification is desired but not required

Education

In addition to meeting the basic requirement to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Degree : Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
