Job Summary: The Wound Care Nurse is a registered nurse certified in Wound Care and is responsible for planning and providing care for patients with complicated wounds, pressure ulcers, and/or any patient with actual or potentially impaired skin integrity. Essential Job Functions: Provide point-of care and programmatic educational and consultative services to physicians and nurses and serve as a role model for pressure ulcer prevention techniques. Provide guidance and assistance regarding dressing, treatments, and prevention interventions. Develop and conduct skin rounds during which bedside education will be provided to nurses, certified nursing assistants, patients and families; participate in NDNQI data collection and reporting; and reassess patients with a prolonged stay. Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to reduce hospital acquired pressure ulcers; including performance improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes Provide point of care and programmatic education to direct-care staff regarding care of patients with or at risk for pressure ulcers including, but not limited to, training and support to all clinical staff in effectively implementing pressure ulcer prevention interventions and in assessing, dressing, and treating wounds Develops, implements and updates policies and procedures based on evidence based practice Responsible for providing expert wound care consultations to nurses, physicians, and clinical support staff to enhance patient outcomes Promotes innovative approaches to best practice Develops and leads unit-based patient skin rounds and participates in NDNQI data collection and reporting Works with vendors to maintain cost-effective wound care formulary. Works across professional and organizational boundaries to support the mission of the organization The CWCN will perform other duties that are consistent with the role as assigned by management This job requires demonstration of initial and annual competencies.RequirementsEducation: Completion of a registered nursing program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.Licenses / Certification: State of Maryland or compact state registered nurse license; Wound Care CertificationExperience: 2-4 years of Medical Surgical Nursing experience 1-3 years experience as Wound Care Nurse preferred Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing. Frequent use of hands and fingers (ex. Use of computer keyboard, tools, equipment). Sitting for long periods of time. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.Performance Requirements: Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times. Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external customers. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Ability to set priorities and solve problems. Fosters a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Flexibility required. Primarily weekday day shift; evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
