The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care to patients within patient care services on medical-surgical units. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill are performed in accordance Bayhealth policies. After competency verification, the Licensed Practical Nurse may deliver patient care services to the adult, and geriatric populations. The care may include, but is not limited to, the following: obtaining and recording in the medical record: blood pressure, pulse, temperature and pulse oximetry, drawing blood, EKG, administration of oral medications, administration of maintenance fluids, administration of tube feedings, transporting patients, obtain urine and stool specimens, perform point of care testing, assist with procedures consistent with the scope of the employees position (ie dressing changes, urinary catherization, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding, observing, and reporting the general well-being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care).Minimum Education and ExperienceMinimumPreferredEducation:Graduate of accredited practical school of nursingMust obtain RN licensure from a program that is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) in timeframe as indicated within RN agreement.Experience:New graduates may be considered2 years LPN experienceComputer/Software Knowledge:Basic computer literacyBasic computer skills in Microsoft Word & Excel, or similar software.Licensure/CertificationBLS required.Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in DE, or compact state;Certification in Specialty area.ACLS CertificationSpecial Knowledge, Skills, and/or AbilitiesModerate knowledge of medical terminology; Blood Glucose Monitoring; HIPAA.Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.Knowledge of Medications and proper administration of said medications.
