The primary purpose of this job is to manage the accounting work-flow and provide accounting direction and analytical support to business unit management. This position is responsible for the overall quality of accounting and regulatory financial compliance, including the development and implementation of systems and processes for complex accounting areas. In addition, this position will automate accounting processes to meet GAAP and auditing standards while maximizing efficiency of available resources. The manager will need to partner with business units to advise on financial statement impact for strategic growth objectives and business process changes.ResponsibilitiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of job duties and the position will perform other duties as assigned.Manage reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts and reviews financial statements and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company policies and procedures.Establish and execute new accounting processes/estimates for emerging GAAP guidance and new lending products and services.Develop analytics that provide financial and strategic insights and support optimal business decision making.Stay abreast of a changing external environment (accounting, regulatory, etc.), conducting analysis to identify business risks and opportunities and informing management of potential financial statement impacts.Perform trending analysis and industry/peer group comparisons.Implement financial dashboards and work with business intelligence tools.Research, gather and synthesize data to present conclusions and recommendations to management and/or team members.Evaluate and refine internal processes and implement technical controls and validation processes to ensure data integrity/accuracy.Supervise documentation of projects to meet audit and regulatory requirements.Develop critical relationships with key technical and non-technical stakeholders to gain concurrence, input, execution, and change management decisions.Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant industry standards, best practices, business processes and PenFed systems to ensure compliance with standards, policy, procedures, and vendor contractual requirements.Ensure compliance with all internal and external reporting deadlines.Manage and provide necessary support to financial audits including internal audits, external audits and regulatory exams.Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis.Conduct interview, hires, provide training and development to accounting staffs. Establish performance goals and priorities in alignment with division/department strategy.Prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals.*This role is responsible for ensuring business continuity.*QualificationsEquivalent combination of education and experience is considered.Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study required.Minimum of ten (10) years of related accounting or financial experience.Minimum of two (2) years of direct management experience.Ability to professionally interact and influence the division leadership team as well as staff to effectively accomplish goals in compliance with company policies and procedures.Ability to demonstrate initiative to thoughtfully research and follow up on non-standard situations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.Ability to work through others to accomplish goals and objectives.Ability to establish processes and procedures to ensure effective department workflow.Ability to track, measure and manage performance is required.Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks and meet deadlines.Advanced skill presenting clearly and concisely to stakeholders and management on findings/conclusions and strategies/alternatives to influence decision making.Thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), compliance and control requirements.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will directly supervise employeesLicenses and CertificationsCPA preferredWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*TravelAbility to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.Special Message Regarding COVID 19PenFed is continuing to hire and train exceptional individuals to help us serve our 2 million members both here and around the world.
