If you are looking for an opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office to enhance your potential to gain new knowledge, skills, and relationships in a collaborative, innovative and supportive environment, this position is for you.Detailed Description:In this role you will work closely with project managers and other team leads locally and nationally to execute work involving conventional types of civil engineering principals and other related activities for infrastructure projects. You will provide support for a variety of projects that may include planning, evaluation, design, and construction related activities for wastewater, water, and storm water conveyance systems. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for the environment, meeting new people, and desire to learn from seasoned professionals in a team environment. Specific duties may include the following:Perform field assessments to evaluate and document existing site-specific conditions or collect design criteriaAssist with environmental studies, permitting and alternative analysisPerform calculations, prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports under supervisionCheck performance or conformity with design plans and specifications through field inspection and reportingAssist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverablesCollect and recorddataand documentationPrepare spreadsheets, documents, drawings and maps (in AutoCAD or GIS)Execute planning, assessment, detailed design, and construction administration assignmentsCommunicate effectively and coordinate with project teams under other disciplines (drafters, designers, and subcontractors)Position will include frequent local travel between office locations in Columbia, Maryland and Alexandria, Virginia, and to field project sites throughout the DC Metro regionDesired Skills and Experience:BS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering (or other related field) required; MS degree preferredEIT and/or NASSCO certifications preferredMinimum 2 years' professional experience in the study, design, and construction administration of water, stormwater and/or wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, and other facilities.Excellent technical writing and communication skills required.Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Access, Project, Excel and PowerPoint is required.Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred, MEP/Revit, and hydraulic modeling platforms a plus.Familiarity with field data collection processes and tools for water/sewer asset inventory & condition assessment.Experience with GIS editing and data management using ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online software preferredExperience with database management tools for data tracking and reporting preferredStrong aptitude for researching and solving technical problemsThe successful candidate's traits will include being a self-starter, being results andquality-oriented, and having good attention to detail, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to learn and growAbility to work effectively in a diverse team environment under tight and pressured deadlinesAbility to successfully manage and deliver on multiple tasks with competing prioritiesValid driver's license and good driving recordWalk slowly around a field site of varying size that may have areas of tall plant growth, uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.Stand for several hours observing and working within roadway traffic control zonesOperate a personal vehicle to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on siteRemain alert and vigilant while working in urban environments and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.Climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.Lifting - objects on job sites less than 30 poundsCOVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:Currently, all employees, contractors, clients, visitors, etc. entering a Brown and Caldwell office must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
