Clearance: Public Trust JOB DESCRIPTION: This family is responsible for performing database administration in support of the Database Management Systems (DBMS) applications. Responsible for software development and maintenance teams, including database definition, structure, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and security and integrity controls. May propose and implement enhancements to improve performance and reliability. May maintain databases across multiple platforms and computer environments. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).SCOPE: Performs complex database administration assignments essential to the production and development of Database Management Systems (DBMS) applications. Assignments, which are in direct support of software development and maintenance teams, include database analysis, security support, design, software use, performance monitoring and tuning, and general technical expertise. Reviews and ensures integrity via standardized support tools. Ensures and monitors that assignments are performed in accordance with database administration guidelines, standards and procedures for applications development, implementation, testing, and migration. Responds to complex customer-reported systems problems. Evaluates and recommends use of software, guidelines, procedures, and development of project plans to lower level staff. Provides DBMS expertise to other groups as requested. May provide work direction and guidance to others.PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Works on moderately complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.IMPACT: Contributes to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives. Decisions or failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules.LIAISON: Interacts daily with functional peer groups. Interaction normally involves exchange or presentation of factual information.FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under limited supervision, normally receives no instructions on routine work, and general instructions on new assignments. May provide guidance to other personnel.LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT: KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Has the knowledge and experience to be able to handle unusual and seldom occurring job events with minimal assistance. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments, may serve in a lead role and provide guidance to nonexempt personnel.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: this position with VA requires a Bachelor's Degree in a computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline and 5 years of experience.ABBTECH is an EOE/Minorities/Women/Disabled Individuals/Veterans
