The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. Our world-class astronomical research center is based on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland (Click here to learn more about our missions). This position could support working from home. Candidates must be in our local market to be able to report on-site when needed.

STScI is seeking a Sr. Business Analyst to provide high-level support and leadership in the technical areas described below, while working as part of a team in the Business Resource Center (BRC).

Your Role & Responsibilities include:

  • Identifies areas for computing performance related improvements across the business operations.
  • Assist team in daily problem resolution.
  • Acquires a working knowledge of all business systems and processes.
  • Develop financial reports from team requirements.
  • Collaborates with IT in planning and testing system upgrades and patches.
  • Provide project support for ongoing and new initiatives.
  • Foster and support a collaborative team environment, sharing all knowledge and skills with other team members.

Your Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field.  Six years’ of progressively responsible experience in supporting business tools and processes support with demonstration of project leadership.  

  • Proven experience in financial report design, develop, test, and implementation
    • IBM Cognos Analytics experience is a plus.
  • Expertise in analyzing financial systems to understand the components and processes
    • Deltek Costpoint and Planning experience is a plus.
  • High level understanding of database structures.
  • Experience in leading financial projects using standard project management practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities necessary for success.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and finance terminology and work flows.
  • Ability to identify and present ideas for process improvements in the business systems.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Candidate should possess the following soft skills:

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and respect staff having diverse viewpoints, objectives and styles.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as on a team.
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
  • Adept at balancing multiple priorities and multi-tasking.
