Duties

  • You will provide information and radiological technical guidance to nuclear engineers and nuclear engineering technicians for preparation of plans and procedures which are utilized by the shipyard for the accomplishment of nuclear work.
  • You will write procedures for installation, operation, testing, and removal of equipment within area of responsibility and exercises technical control of such tests.
  • You will be expected to keep abreast of all new developments in radiological controls associated with nuclear propulsion program.
  • You will prepare plans, sketches, and documents as required to plan, design construct, and modify new or existing critical shipyard facilities that pertain to radiological control support work.
  • You will amend or reject work not meeting established standards, and refer supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting established standards.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

GS-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience with some of the theories, principles and techniques of nuclear engineering with special emphasis in the radiological control aspects, such as can only be gained through extensive and intensive practical experience in the field.
  • Experience with the functions and objectives of the department in the nuclear propulsion program.
  • Experience with the construction, application, properties, operation and limitation of nuclear engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials.
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience with the functions and objectives of the department in the nuclear propulsion program.
  • Experience with the department and other department directives and policies pertinent to the work.
  • Experience with the construction, application, properties, operation and limitation of nuclear engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials.
