Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Based on established policies, incumbent carries out assigned tasks in the Barber Physical Activities Center, applying an understanding of the interest and needs of program participants.

Relay instructions from supervisor. Gets work started. Sets work pace. Demonstrates work methods, and provides work-related guidance. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Reports workplace injuries immediately to the immediate or high level supervisor, and to the Human Resource office in the absence of the immediate supervisor. Checks with supervisor on problems. Checks on work and meets productivity goals. Ensures employees follow security, safety and housekeeping rules. Conducts on-the-job training and instructions. Performs supervisory duties in an emergency, or short-term and nonrecurring basis.

Ensures front desk staff properly receive and direct all patrons who visit or call Barber Physical Activity Center, providing information in person or by telephone concerning the Barber Gym Programs. Ensures all front and back desk areas have a professional, customer service appearance at all times. Ensures only authorized personnel are participating in programs by check ID Cards and verify that participants meet the eligibility criteria.

Operates front desk cash handling and is responsible for change fund, turn-ins and cash receipts. Opens and closes the Daily Activity Report (DAR). Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. Complies with RecTrac processes. Responsible for ensuring that all front desk staff are executing proper procedures in the collecting of monies for group exercise classes, personal training sessions, massage therapy, dietician sessions, and establishing households in the RecTrac system.

Responsible for preparing and issuing group exercise monthly passes and contractor membership cards to paying patrons. Responsible for maintain locker issue program by contacting patrons via e-mail to ensure they update their locker in accordance with the RecTrac data base. Helps maintain inventory, accountability of facility supplies and cleanliness of facility and equipment in accordance with internal control procedures. Provides directly or via desk staff, superior customer service in providing information and instruction regarding athletic facilities and program such as; intramural sports, youth sports, group exercise classes, personal training sessions, massage therapy sessions and health promotion information. Retrieving and laundering uniforms and towels. Ensures proper desk staff operations in reservations of basketball courts, racquetball courts and other facilities as required. Ensures proper enforcement of rules and regulations by desk staff to patrons in facilities.

Responsible for daily maintenance and cleanliness of specific facility areas. Performs daily safety inspection of facilities and corrects discrepancies or reports discrepancies that are beyond their control to appropriate personnel and supervisor. Support facility logistics as needed such as periodically checking and replenishing the outdoor facilities and restrooms for supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.

Provides World Class Customer Service, with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adhere to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishap to the immediate supervisor. Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift/carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

This position is mission essential. May be required to work when the rest of the base is closed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year experience in recreational activities or related field along with customer service. The ability to read and interpret guidelines pertaining to facility operations, which are directly applicable to MCCS policies. Ability to communicate orally and in writing using tact and courtesy. Must have basic computer skulls. CPR and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain within one month from the date of hire. May be required to obtain government drivers' license.
