Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Manufacturing/Process Engineer to join its Manufacturing Organization as part of the iReturn Program. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.The qualified applicant will join a iReturn cohort of employees re-entering the workforce after a career break of at least two years. This cohort will receive special on-boarding designed to provide an effective re-entry into the workforce. iReturn provides experienced professionals with a 12-week "returnship" to prepare for a full-time career in one of several fields at Northrop Grumman through training, professional development and networking opportunities. Qualified applicants will join a cohort of employees returning to the workforce after a 2+ career break for this "returnship" program that focuses on giving you a seamless transition back into the workforce. This cohort program will approximately run from late January to early May and prepare candidates for an effective re-entry into the workforce. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, and we drive to do what others think is impossible.Responsibilities Include:Process Engineer: Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.Project Engineer: Act as the main point of contact for all manufacturing engineering related activities for their product within the cell. Monitor product performance, quality, delivery, and cost metrics; highlight detractors and gather resources to resolve them. Collaborate closely with their process engineering peers as well as multiple other functional groups supporting the shop floor, program office, and customer. Drive root cause corrective action efforts. Identify continuous improvement opportunities; create solutions and lobby for funding. Review and handle product on the shop floor. Lead communications outward from the shop floor, through yield meetings, situations reports, problem resolution charts, etc. Gather and document efforts related for non-recurring cost for initial product startup as well as support manufacturing readiness reviewsBasic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering or other STEM related areaA minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (3 years with Masters; 0 years with PhD).2 year career minimum career breakFluency in MS Office software applicationsCandidate must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance (US citizenship is a prerequisite).Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements and Space Class hardware requirements, including MIL-STD-883 & MIL-PRF-38534, J-STD, IPCProcess Engineering experienceRobotics, automation, machining, and/or assembly experienceFamiliarity with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), 6 sigma concepts for process development and controlKnowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)Experience with the design or manufacturing of electronics and/or PCBsFamiliarity with CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, NX/ Genesis 2000 or similar)Familiarity with Matlab, VBA, and Minitab software and/or similarProject Engineer: Project management experience"Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
