Position Summary The Director of Tennis will serve as senior staff, reporting to the General Manager of the club. The Director is accountable for maximizing member satisfaction, development of facility programs and activities, preparing, executing, and reporting on the financial plan, and providing leadership for the Tennis department. The Director is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the tennis and pickleball programs and facilities through management and training of teaching professionals, support staff and maintenance staff. The Director shall collaborate with the member-led Tennis Committee to determine the priorities of the program. The Director is expected to regularly provide accurate reporting on program performance data and budget to management and committee. Facility management includes oversight of all outdoor and indoor court conditions and the general maintenance of the Tennis/Fitness building. Other responsibilities under the Director include the development of a calendar of events, scheduling for all instructional programs, event planning and execution, online and in-person member interface including the management of website content and online program registration system. Essential Duties Primary focus on development and supervision of the tennis operationsMonitor and report on business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of workforce, productivity, costs, and other expenses. Manage inventory, pricing, and sales of merchandise and racket stringing.Monitor all tennis and racket play including league, camps, clinics, lessons, special events, walk-in, and contracts.Develop skills, teach, and build upon strong interest in pickleball and encourage participation amongst all members. Build program to attract new members so that SGCC is known to be the elite pickleball club in Northern Virginia.Ensure the proper charging of fees, and accurate, timely member billing.Plan and coordinate the scheduling of courts for all league practices, clinics and matches, with Team Captains.Attend league meetings with area club Directors of Tennis to coordinate league rules and schedules.Initiate, direct, and promote tennis clinics, special events and programs to attract and maintain members' tennis interests.Provide beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels of players.Implement and develop lesson programs for adults and juniors.Work with other club departments to develop combined programs for the membership.Ensure proper daily inspection of the courts/facilities prior to the start of play and ascertain that all necessary maintenance has been performed and the courts are in a safe working order. Reports any issues to the General Manager and/or Maintenance Manager.Monitor and track court utilization data to support business decisions.Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Assure effective orientation and training are given to each new associate.Conduct weekly staff meetings and develop ongoing training programs.Responsible for implementing and maintaining excellent service to achieve highest levels of member satisfaction.Provide timely and relevant information and updates for the tennis and racquets section of the club's website and the weekly e-newsletter.Enforce club rules and regulations governing the use of the club/facility, its equipment and other property. Report non-compliance and member issues to General Manager. QualificationsStrong program management skills, preferably in tennis or a recreational activity-related field.Demonstrated experience and knowledge of management processes for planning, monitoring, and controlling programs.3-5 years experience in managing program budgets and ability to make value driven decisions based on data and member feedback.Demonstrated effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to garner respect and to create a sense of community amongst staff and members.Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.Collaborative, energetic, and a drive for successful program development and implementation.Customer service focused.Bachelor's degree in sports management/administration (or relevant field).Five years' experience as a head tennis professional/instruction. Certificates/LicensesUSTPA or USTPR certification.CPR / First Aid Certification Physical DemandsFrequently stands, walks, uses hands; talks and hears, reaches with hands and arms, climbs, balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Occasionally sits. Regularly lifts 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Environment/Noise Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
