Dewberry is currently seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Manager in the professional services and construction industry for its corporate office in Fairfax, VA. The Senior Contracts Manager will provide contracting support to the various practice areas of the Dewberry enterprise. Reporting to the Director of Contracts, the selected candidate will review federal, state, local and commercial professional services and construction agreements involving various types of project delivery. The Senior Contracts Manager will also work closely with internal business resources, clients, legal and other stakeholders across the enterprise to ensure agreements meet Dewberry's contracting standards and requirements.

Responsibilities

Contract Management:Provide federal, state, local and commercial professional services and construction contract management support for various types of project delivery throughout the enterprise. Contract management includes the drafting, review, revision, negotiation, administration, and modification of all company standard and nonstandard contracts, subcontracts, and agreements for the projects Dewberry undertakes, Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts and subcontracts, along with license agreements, data rights agreements, teaming agreements, non-disclosure agreements, joint venture agreements, etc. Provide analysis of liability and other risks to Dewberry, articulate these risks to Dewberry stakeholders, and develop strategies for mitigating these risks. Deliver your services independently, efficiently and in a timely manner. Ensure that the final contract is delivered to and signed by the appropriate people.

Communication: Establish and maintain relationships with team members, stakeholders, internal and external clients, and other third parties to communicate all proposal and contract matters. Communicate regularly with project managers business unit managers, operating unit managers, accounting and legal staff to address any and all contract-related questions or issues. Work well with all levels of Dewberry's management and leadership.

Collaboration: Work closely with the larger Contracts team, and stakeholders, as appropriate, to prepare and update policies and guidelines for contracting issues and initiatives. Assist in audits, reviews and such special projects as required by the Director of Contracts. Support outreach activities within the Dewberry organization, including conducting periodic training and contributing to internal articles and notices.

Coaching and Mentoring: Serve as a coach and mentor to develop less seasoned and experienced Contracts team members in their development. Keep abreast of developments in contracting and communicate information to Dewberry's business units.

Process Improvement: Serve as a thought partner in reviewing existing contracting processes to implement changes towards efficiency and effectiveness. Implement a team approach when developing strategic and innovative proposal and contract solutions within regulatory guidelines, resulting in agreements that consider, properly weigh, and resolve the needs of the department, stakeholders, internal and external clients and Dewberry's business units.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BA/BS plus minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, effective written and oral communication skills, effective negotiation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must understand the broader impact of proposed or awarded work and contract terms on the company, be able to identify and resolve contract issues with guidance as necessary and advise program staff and management of contractual rights and obligations.
  • Applicant must have a strong working knowledge of business practices in the engineering and construction industries.
  • Ability to directly and professionally interact and negotiate with government acquisitions personnel and teaming partner personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues and problems on assigned contracts and make independent recommendations to direct supervisor(s), program staff, and business unit management.

Desired/Preferred Additional Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree is preferred;
  • Applicant must have current/previous experience in the contracts, or legal, department of an engineering or construction company working under the Alternative Project Delivery method.
  • Familiarity with state and local government contracting practices is desired, familiarity with federal government contracts is a plus.
