Appian's Public Sector Cloud compliance team is looking for an experienced Technical Writer with knowledge of public sector compliance such as FedRAMP, FISMA, & DISA Impact Levels.

The Technical Writer will conceptualize, design, and develop technical documentation for our clients including Policies and Procedures in support of Public Sector initiatives, internal team documentation, such as on-boarding documents, new employee guides, and work with security analysts to complete and submit monthly POA&Ms to government agencies. As a Technical Writer with Appian, you will work closely with our product engineering, cloud operations, and all teams within information security to ensure all documentation is current, accurate, and meets guidelines for certification bodies.

The ideal candidate is an initiative-taker with strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and project management skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through completion.

To be successful in this role, you need:
  • Work alongside our teams to become knowledgeable in all aspects of our public sector program
  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality, technical documentation in both traditional and online formats
  • Translate project goals and requirements into effective project plans
  • Create, edit, and maintain required policies & procedures in support of public sector programs.
  • Participate in growth of new methodologies, strategies, tools, training, and processes
  • Gather feedback from team members and other departments on existing documentation to implement content updates to ensure relevance, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Improve style, syntax, and terminology usage across materials to increase quality level and effectiveness of communications
  • Participate in peer reviews

Basic qualifications:
  • BS in Engineering, Technical Communication, English, or related field required
  • Software development background preferred
  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer in a software-development environment
  • 3+ years of experience authoring documentation for a highly, technical audience
  • Experience authoring technical documentation for highly technical and complex products
  • Experience with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and other compliance frameworks
  • Ability to effectively work with developers, testers, project managers, support staff and other subject matter experts to gather needed information.
  • Ability to select the right communication medium and methods for the audience and analyze the user experience to deliver the optimal technical support
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and quality standards and to deliver fully on commitments
  • Proven ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts and create concise technical documentation
  • Proven ability to work in dynamic work environments with limited supervision to deliver results
