Duties

This Engagements Coordinator position is located in the Administrator's Action Group (AAG), Chief of Staff, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates high level internal and external engagements for the Administrator (ADM) and Deputy Administrator (DADM) to include researching and vetting organizations and venues; communicating with external planners and internal program offices; organizing internal planning teams; developing and managing invitation lists while ensuring adherence to proper protocol, ethics, and policy based on ADM, DADM or Chief of Staff guidance/direction; anticipating and resolving problems; and managing logistics and execution.
  • Maintains direct working relationship with the Chief Counsel's Ethics Branch, Business Advisor, Contracting & Procurement, Protocol Office, and Legislative Affairs offices on developing TSAs strategic messages and products and to ensure executive engagements are planned and conducted in accordance with existing laws, regulations, policies, and guidance.
  • Ensures travel mode, use of Official Reception and Representation (ORR) funds, and gift exchanges are properly executed; assists the Administrator's Action Group (AAG) with developing and executing outreach/advocacy engagements.
  • Maintains and develops tools and resources to document executive engagements, enhance transparency, streamline coordination, manage stakeholder history, and track engagement metrics.
  • Develops strategic communication and tracking tools/documents to include engagement strategies, briefing memos, talking points, speeches, and thank you letters.

At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Planning and coordinating all phases of high level engagement activities (i.e. drafting and organizing fact sheets, trip schedules, pre-meeting briefing materials, talking points, and other informational materials) in preparation for outreach and engagement events; and
  • Developing and reviewing communications projects, memos, presentations and/or other related public relations/outreach materials for accuracy and consistency.

Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
