Duties

• Serve as an advocate for the scientific content of the various projects and research activities being conducted within the Geodesy and Geophysics Laboratory in support of NASA's GSFC Earth Science Division.
• Manage all aspects of Laboratory operations including research and mission planning; budgeting; IT security; and staff hiring, supervision, timecard and other approvals, promotions, performance evaluation, and awards nominations.
• Identify strategic objectives for the organization and develop and manage a coherent research and mission operations support program in accordance with NASA programmatic goals.
• Maintain close cooperation with personnel in the Earth Sciences and other Divisions of the GSFC, as well as with the scientific activities within other Laboratories in GSFC and at NASA Headquarters other related NASA Centers.
• Serve as an internationally recognized expert and technical authority/advisor/consultant on remote sensing-based geodesy and geophysics, to management, to organizations within and outside of government, and to industry.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level that includes leading a research project in planning, developing, and conducting Earth Science studies related to geodesy and geophysics using remote sensing data; serving as a proposal reviewer and/or advisor on technical issues related to geodesy and geophysics; and reviewing journal articles prior to publication.

Education

You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
