The Embedded Systems Developer will enhance APL's ability to prototype novel solutions for numerous sponsor agencies and departments. Together, we will innovate, assess and integrate real-time systems analysis, perform laboratory and field-testing, assist in post-processing data analysis, and communicate findings to sponsors. We cultivate an environment that promotes professional growth and a balanced life, and encourage diversity of thought!As a Resilient Systems Embedded Developer (Mid-career), you will:Contribute as core team member or team leader on a diverse portfolio of projects, applying creative thinking to solve problems related to Military and Space mission systems cybersecurityCreate innovative hardware and software prototypesPort existing software-based solutions to embedded firmwareExpand and enhance simulation and emulation environments used in laboratory experimentationProvide hands-on technical hardware expertise to numerous teams ranging from sponsor work to internal research and development tasksContribute to hands-on experimentation, and provide recommendations on approachesInterface system components with test, measurement, and analysis equipment, enabling cybersecurity-related research and developmentQualificationsYou meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you Possess a BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer EngineeringHave 3+ years' embedded troubleshooting experience using compilers, debuggers, and development tools, employing interfaces such as I2C, RS-232/422/485, IEEE-488 GPIB, USB, SPI, JTAG, J1939/CAN, Internet TCP/IP protocols and bussesHave 2+ years' experience developing hardware and software for embedded systems, including systems on module, real-time operating systems, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and/or weapon systems assemblies, using supported tools and toolchains (eg, PetaLinux, Vivado Design Suite, Vivado HLS)Have 2+ years' automated test instrumentation programming experience for external physical systems control, monitoring, and communicationAn ability to adapt high-level source code (eg, C/C++ ) functional implementations to VHDL/VerilogHave experience creating emulated or simulated environments based on actual systemsHave the knowledge and skills to ensure network and system cybersecurityWillingness to share knowledge with others, and ability to effectively present solutions to stakeholders (eg internal to the laboratory, sponsors)Are willing and able to travel up to 10%Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
