The Senior Biomedical Engineer performs duties related to technology assessment, technology implementation, and healthcare consulting that support the NCR's medical device integration and interface requirements associated with the implementation of the DoD new electronic health record, MHS GENESIS. The Cerner Corporation's electronic health record (EHR) will replace the DoD's existing EHR. Additional duties include overseeing Lab management, coordinating the testing of medical device for security vulnerabilities, testing medical equipment integration with the Medical Device Gateway. The new system increases medical device integration, and interfaces with selected clinical systems, for a more seamless diagnosis and care documentation process.In this role, a typical day will include:Investigation and testing to confirm compatibility for integration with the MHS GENESIS electronic health record, and compliance with appropriate cyber security prerequisitesProcurement package creation, development, staffing, and support for equipment and device replacement and modernization and system upgradesSystem procurement package creation, development, and support for medical system configuration changes, and testing for interfaces with the Cerner electronic health recordOn-site project management and coordination with hospital and vendor staff for biomedical equipment, device, and system replacement, modernization, installation, certification, and configuration to achieve integration and/or interface with the Cerner electronic health record, MHS GENESISAssuring that medical equipment and devices provide the functional capability necessary to support clinical care requirementsMaking sure equipment and devices are compatible with the Cerner operating system in order to achieve reliable, efficient, and secure transmission of patient data from the device to the patient recordsConfirming that the medical device complies with all appropriate cyber security guidance and directives and is standardized to the maximum extent possible across the hospital and possibly the regionSupporting market research for all medical device replacement and modernization actionsWorking with the clinical departments to determine the device's specifications, features, and functions and verifies that the device will meet usability/ease of use criteria defined by the clinical activityWorking with the information technology and facilities staff to assure that necessary space, utilities and network requirements are available to support full functionality.Teaming with the hospital and regional cyber security staff to confirm that the medical equipment/device meets all compliance requirementsCoordinating with facilities and information technology departments to assure that all space and utility requirements fully support newly acquired equipment, devices, and systems.Reviewing of architectural and engineering plans when space must be altered or constructed to house new equipment, devices, or systems.Project management support to assure system configuration, installation, and activation that fully supports intended use of equipment and devicesProviding full functionality to support clinical requirementsWorking in close coordination with clinical staff, biomedical services, logistics, facilities, information technology, and the providing vendorCoordinating review of the DHA's cyber security guidance and coordinates information assurance requirements with the hospital's information technology and cyber security staff.Providing oversight of medical equipment and device installation, inspection, and training to assure effective first use and continued effective use of the equipment, devices, or systemsSupporting various aspects of equipment planning to include strategic planning, needs assessment, technology research, assessment of business proposals, cost-benefit analysis, and life-cycle management modeling and analysisPlaying a key role in large project analysis such as facility alteration and addition and impact for biomedical equipment requirementsBeing a vital resource for consultation with clinical departments, hospital committees, and hospital leadership with respect to technology directions and decisionsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Certification as a Clinical Engineer (CCE)3 + years of hospital or healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment or managing a hospital medical equipment programKnowledge of concepts related to computer based medical systems, networking protocols, and information securityAbility to develop standards for a continuing education program that address the safe and effective use of medical technologyAbility to manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including medical device hazard investigations, to assure compliance with patient safety goalsUnderstanding of regulatory agencies' requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standardsUS Citizenship and ability to obtain a NACLC (T3) investigationWHAT GDIT CAN OFFER YOU:401K with company matchInternal mobility team dedicated to helping you own your careerCollaborative teams of highly motivated critical thinkers and innovatorsAbility to make a real impact on the world around youNot sure this job's the one for you?
