Support the accurate reconciliation and maintenance of the organization's financial statementsand reports. Works independently within established procedures/practices, makes recommendations andwith moderate guidance.Responsibilities:Perform accounting activities to include review and analysis of financial statements, ledgers,reconciliations and associated accounts to ensure accurate application of industry standardsPerform monthly close activities to include reviewing and monitoring entries to the Trial Balance,Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts and posting of adjustmentsPerform account reconciliation, analytics and variance analysis, and provide sufficient supportingdocumentationApply basic to broad knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and AccountingStandard Codification (ASC) to the preparation of NFCU financial statementsEnsure compliance with GAAP and ASC by applying accounting standards in the preparation of NFCRfinancial statementsIdentify simplifying assumptions and accounting methods and instances of incorrect application ofGAAP/ASC; quantify the impact of such treatment and recommend solutionsConduct in-depth analysis to identify, isolate and resolve discrepancies, and contribute to quality controland process improvementInvestigate, resolve and/or escalate complex discrepancies, data entry errors and out of balancesituations; prepare and present recommendations for immediate action or proposals for policy changesto prevent lossesBuild business unit relationships and serve as point of contact for inquiries and problem resolution incollaboration with all levels of management and staffPerform technical research to assist with responses to inquiries from internal and external auditorsPerform variance analysis and generate reports including associated justificationIdentify and participate in process and automated improvement initiatives; assist with integration testingand present recommendations for implementationEnsure compliance and keep abreast of emerging accounting policies/updates and assist with themaintenance of the Accounting Policy ManualPrepare and reviews internal and external reports, schedules and statementsIdentify gaps in financial controls, develop and present recommendations for alternative/correctiveactionLead small projects or support project groups across departmental lines by applying accountingknowledge to development or enhancement initiatives for new systems and automated processesParticipate in task/project groups across department lines; assist with system design/development andparticipate in integration testing; communicate accounting knowledge and business processesMaintain relationships with external contacts and all levels of management and staff; act as resource forthe resolution of complex problemsMentor and review work of junior level team membersPerform other duties as assignedQualifications and Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field or the equivalent combination of experience,education and trainingExperience in an accounting role demonstrating an significant knowledge and understanding ofaccounting functions and transactions, reconciliation techniques and technical accounting informationWorking knowledge of GAAP and general working experience with technical accounting memosExperience with financial/accounting systems (eg, Peoplesoft, General Ledger) used in the managementand analysis of financial dataWorking knowledge of SOX control environment including documentation and testing of controls andtheir effectiveness over financial reportingDemonstrated ability to work independently and to coach, train and guide teammates in the applicationof GAAP and accounting rulesAdvanced skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracyExperience working with cross-functional teams and the ability to lead small projects or portions ofprojectsEffective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with both internal and external contacts andto respond to requests regarding complex financial information/dataAbility to present findings and conclusions clearly and conciselyEffective analytical, organizational and problem solving skillsWorking knowledge of PC applications to include Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Access andPowerPointAbility to work both independently and in a team environment to include mentoring/guiding teammatesAdvanced skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlinesEffective verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated intention to pursue or currently pursuing CPA certificationDesired Qualifications and Education Requirements:Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related fieldCPA certification highly desiredPrevious experience with credit union financials and/or NCUA regulationsWorking knowledge of Navy Federal organizational structure, products, services, policies and proceduresHours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pmLocation: 820 Follin Lane, Vienna, VA 22180 | 5550 Heritage Oaks Dr Pensacola, FL 32526Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remaincompetitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.The salary range for this position is: $70,200 to $95,700Due to COVID-19 and social distancing, this position will be temporarily working from home with plans to return to campus at the desired location listed once Navy Federal is back to normal operations.
