SummaryThe In House Counsel provides legal advice and support to various teams across several business units within Lidl US. This position ensures that applicable business units are provided accurate and timely legal advice, and are equipped with relevant policies, procedures, and written agreements. The role minimizes the Company's legal exposure in transactions and operations, ensuring its compliance with US laws and regulations, and applicable Lidl international requirements. In addition this individual will oversee the team dedicated to obtaining food establishment, business and alcohol licenses for stores and distribution centers.What You'll DoProvide legal advice and support to business units, including executive leadership and regional management, about legal issues and risks, as well as company policies and proceduresUnderstand federal, state and local licensing regulations and develop detailed timelines to ensure licenses are obtained prior to store openingsOversee team dedicated to obtaining licenses for stores and distribution centersManage actual and potential litigation matters with an emphasis on commercial litigationProvide transactional/contractual support for specific business units, including assisting with contract negotiations and producing and reviewing contractsDevelop contract standards and provide contract samples as neededMonitor state and federal legislation and government agency enforcement priorities and advise of developments that may affect business unitsCommunicate with courts, authorities and third-party attorneys as neededProvide reports in accordance with the specifications of Management and Legal & Compliance InternationalDevelop and implement trainings on legal mattersEngage, supervise and manage outside counselWhat You'll Need2 - 4 years of professional experience in relevant legal fieldJuris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited US law school requiredMember in Good Standing of at least 1 state bar required (Virginia preferred); must be able to present Certificate of Good Standing from State BarStrong contract drafting, research, analytical, and negotiation skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to research legal issues and provide clear and concise written and oral adviceAbility to work under pressure and to quickly adapt to changing circumstancesWhat You'll ReceiveAt Lidl, we know that in order for our people to do their best, they must be at their best.
