Title: Litigation Paralegal Company: Palmer Legal StaffingLocation: Washington, DC Status: Direct HireSalary: Up to $100K DOE*Local candidates only*Job Description:A DC law firm is seeking a litigation paralegal to join their team. Job Responsibilities: Assist in all phases of a matter from case inception through trial, appeal, and/or resolutionManage cases, calendars, and deadlinesCoordinate and support all phases of paper and electronic discovery process, including working closely with e-discovery litigation support manager to coordinate collection, processing, production, review, and management of ESI. Assist in processes associated with developing, responding, objecting to, and negotiating document request. Includes identifying and reviewing documents for production, identifying and reviewing documents for privilege, preparing and drafting request to produce, preparing and drafting response for request to produce, preparing and drafting notice of nonparty production (NNP), preparing and drafting subpoena and authorization, obtaining nonsubpoenaed documents (ie, tax returns, work comp, disability, court files), and reviewing summarizing subpoenaed documents. Assist in processes associated with developing, responding or objecting to interrogatories or request to admit and summarizing interrogatories and admissions received.Prepare for depositions, including coordinating logistics and transcripts, and preparation of witness files, exhibits, notices and subpoenas, and deposition summaries. Assist in processes associated with preparing deposition notices and subpoenas, communicating with opposing and other party's counsel on scheduling and logistics, planning and preparing to take the deposition. Assist in processes associated with preparing expert discovery notices, communicating with expert on scheduling and logistics.Assist with and prepare for meetings with clients, witnesses, experts, and outside counselAssist with trial preparation and logistics, including management of war room(s), preparation of witness files, management of exhibits, setting up trial space, and attending trial (hot seating), as neededAssist with the preparation of court filings, including cite and fact checking legal briefs, conforming citations to the Bluebook and/or court rules, proofreading, assembling exhibits and appendices, generating tables of contents and authorities, and preparing and submitting electronic court filings, which includes reviewing and answering complaints, counterclaims and third-party complaints, motions to dismiss or strike jurisdictional motions, and research for pleadingsAssist with processes associated with drafting, revising, proofreading, or transcribing documents, presentations or correspondence. Assist with processes associated with the management and identification of electronic and physical documents (records). Includes the adherence to established naming and organizational protocols and procedures to facilitate future retrieval, including processes associated with reproducing, printing, scanning, or finishing documents.Perform a breadth of substantive factual research and analytical workAssist with processes associated with the formal acceptance of the project and its conclusion. Administrative activities include the archiving of the files and documenting lessons learned. Includes completing, settling, and closing each case/project (including the resolution of any open items) applicable to the project, and finalizing all activities across all of the process groups to formally close the project.Mentor and train junior paralegalsRemain current in technology developments in the legal industryPerform all assignments, whether billable or non-billable, promptly and efficiently;Organize, analyze, communicate, and administer efficiently and competently;Recognize and evaluate relevant facts and legal concepts;Be knowledgeable of and abide by all legal authority governing confidential information;Strive to anticipate attorney needs and exhibit a high level of competency in meeting those needs;Remember that you work in a service industry and should strive in each task performed to provide our clients with the high level of service the firm is known for;Seek to maintain a high-level of performance and client service through the continuing legal education and technical training programs offered by the firm;Ensure that all timekeeping and billing records are thorough, accurate, and complete;Be knowledgeable of the firm's policies, procedures and best practices'Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and contribution to the integrity of the paralegal and legal profession and that of the firm;Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any possible conflict to the firm;Maintain an open-door policy and willingness to assist with any and all projects assigned.Respond promptly to attorney and client needs, solicit client feedback to improve service, respond to requests for service and assistance, and meet commitments.Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and get clarification, respond well to questions, and participate in meetings.Write clearly and informatively, edit work for spelling and grammar, varies writing style to meet needs, present numerical data effectively, and is able to read and interpret written information.Ability to work with little supervision, prioritize and anticipate work needs, and work well under occasional periods of pressure and short deadlines.Keep client and firm information confidential at all times; understand and implement general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.Job Requirements:Undergraduate degree with an excellent academic record.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Excellent research skills.At least three/five years' experience as a litigation paralegal or in a related (litigation support) position.Familiarity with handling and management of ESI in litigation.Familiarity with at least one litigation support database application (eg, Relativity, Eclipse).Experience with LiveNote and trial presentation software (eg, Sanction, Trial Director) is a plus/required.Proven capabilities to work well in teams, and to develop and maintain quality relationships with staff, lawyers, and vendors.How To Apply: Please respond with your resume for consideration.
