Duties

  • You will oversee the operation and management of the Occupational Health Program
  • You will provide clinical care to eligible beneficiaries at various clinics
  • You will identify Occupational Health program goals through interdisciplinary collaboration with industrial hygienists, safety managers, physicians and supports commands
  • You will identify operations that may cause occupational illness/injury and recommend preventive and corrective procedures
  • You will recognize hazardous exposure and initiate treatment and follow-up

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must:
  • Have successfully completed a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by this position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. AND
  • Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. AND
  • Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND
  • Possess a permanent, full and unrestricted license or registration as an advanced practice professional nurse issued by a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
OR
  • Are currently a federal employee assigned to a Nurse, 0610 SERIES position as of September 2017.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector by ensuring programs are current and meet legal requirements; interpret and adhere to all DOD, Navy, federal and local regulations; prepare and submit clinical and navy reports; occupational injuries are treated and followed up; provide nursing assessment, diagnostic and treatment for occupational and non-occupational illnesses.

Board certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) by the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) is desired but not required.
