Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Leads a team of editors and staff to monitor, review, assign, conceive, and direct the development and production of daily news as well as in-depth reporting for a digital platform focused on the Latin American audience.
  • Provides staff with guidance that aligns with VOA's Best Practices Guide and Editorial standard operating procedures (SOPs) on production values, preparation of copies, illustrations, videos, and multimedia storytelling techniques.
  • Expertise in multimedia software related to digital, audio, video, and graphic produced for digital platforms.
  • Expertise in the Latin America digital media eco system in order to make sure that the Spanish Digital platforms have the greatest impact in the target market.
  • Leads a team of editors and writers, and provides editorial oversight; including having responsibility for the content of the Spanish Service Digital platforms, including social media.
  • Manages and assigns workloads and works with editors and writers, determines staff assignments and provides feedback on work assigned.

  • The full performance grade level for this position is GS-13.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience : Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to or at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent level in the private, public, or federal sectors AND fluency in the Spanish and English languages that demonstrates ability to edit, write, and lead a team of digital editors and reporters or journalists working in a Spanish news website. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. This experience includes:
  • Ability to lead a team of editors (which includes social media editors) and writers to produce multimedia digital stories, special reports, and features;
  • Expertise producing multimedia stories, photo galleries, social media stories with illustrations, audio for digital media, videos for digital media, and multimedia storytelling techniques;
  • Experience and knowledge of editing digital content for editorial and design processes, and skill in providing input to subordinate staff;
  • Expertise in data, analytics, and metrics to address audience and growth trends; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Latin American digital media market.


Education

There is no specific educational requirement and applicants cannot substitute education for experience at this grade level; however, academic achievements, especially those related to the position, may be considered during the selection process.

To be well-qualified and exercise selection priority for this vacancy, displaced Federal employees must be rated at 80 or above on the rating criteria for this position.
