Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the WorldSenior ParalegalPAE is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our dynamic team to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC. This role will work directly with trial attorneys and other contractor staff. Work product is reviewed before submission; however, often develops drafts with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines.Responsibilities include:Maintains case files in electronic and hardcopy formats.Performs moderately complex legal research in Lexis and Westlaw.Reviews and synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use.Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents.Reviews case-related materials for evidentiary value and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.Uses Relativity to manage documentary evidence and discovery, including running saved searches and reviewing documents.Writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.Proofread, edits, and conducts cite-checking on draft legal documents and filings.Indexes, tracks, and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery).Indexes, tracks, and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.Assists attorneys in courtroom. May attend trial.Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.Other examples of the types of work to be performed include production requests, communicating with witnesses, maintaining databases in SharePoint, summarizing depositions and other transcripts, preparing exhibits for trial, etc.Works directly with Trial Attorneys, as well as other Paralegals and Contractor staff.This position is currently a telework opportunity but will report to an on-site DOJ office.Minimum Qualifications:Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment.Must have excellent writing skills and oral communication capabilities.Requires at least two years of litigation paralegal experience. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.Role also requires hands-on familiarity with Relativity, including reviewing documents and running saved searches, and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.Works with a sense of urgency, confidentiality, and a high level of attention to detail.Requires ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.Works independently and effectively with colleagues at all levels.#APP21PAE is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
