(Click here to learn more about STScI).The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is seeking a Head of Human Resources (VP Level) to work with the Institute Director, leadership, and staff to define Human Resources strategy and vision and oversee all services, including full life cycle recruitment, competitive benefits and compensation structures, performance management, talent and leadership development, compliance, HCM systems and most importantly, employee relations and culture.You will be directly responsible for a highly-skilled team of 16 Human Resources professionals who provide the full suite of Human Resources services, resources and programs for 750+ staff. Our hands on approach will allow you to roll up your sleeves and dig in to define new and innovative ways to hire, engage, evaluate and develop our staff. You will navigate the compliance complexities and operational rigor that is required of an academically oriented, not-for-profit, government contractor. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be a strategic thought leader able to champion the needs of staff and work to integrate those with the needs of the organization. You will partner with our DEI Officer to integrate strategies for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into core HR services and resources. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Administration.Primary Functions:Establish trust as a strategic thought leader, influencer, and change agent responsible for implementing people initiatives and cultural change.Work with the Director, senior leadership team and the Human Resources team to strategically plan and execute Human Resources initiatives that will benefit the staff and organization. As a strategic business partner, align Human Resources strategy and vision with the future of the organization.Lead, engage and support a high-performing Human Resources team.Actively seek opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of these resources and ensure that they are aligned with the organization's need and objectives.Provide consultation and guidance to staff, managers, leadership team and the Director, as needed. Foster cross-functional relationships.Promote a positive and open work environment where employees feel respected and engaged.Actively partner with the DEI Officer to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and integrate DEI strategies into organizational policy, practice and operations.Provide Human Resources consultative and programmatic support to the AURA Corporate Office.Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:A Degree (Master's level preferred but not required) in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related A$ A' not A' eld. Demonstrated ability advancing human resources programs/plans at an organizational level. Five+ years of leadership experience. SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP certifications preferred. Prior experience in a STEM or academic environment is helpful, but not required.Substitution of additional relevant education or experience for stated qualiA$ A' not A' cations will be considered.Experience leading multiple HR functions in the course of your career.Demonstrated ability to build strong, high performing teams by empowering others to be their best.Experience with strategy development, management principles and practices, and/or driving organizational change.Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.Keen to motivate and effectively educate staff, cultivate and develop collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners as well as to authentically connect, negotiate, inA$ A' not A cents € suence, and build consensus.Able to build trust; honest, ethical, and dependable Deep level of empathy and emotional intelligence.Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for diverse backgrounds, perspectives, experiences and identities of staff.
