The national staff strives to produce outstanding, original, riveting coverage of the nation and we count on the national editor to lead the charge. We are looking for someone with a record of delivering ambitious, revelatory investigative journalism, agenda-setting scoops, innovative presentations and meaningful features that tell the story of the country.

The ideal candidate must have a strong management record and a commitment to creating a culture of opportunity and inclusion. We also want a collaborative editor who knows that our best work comes from partnering with colleagues around the newsroom.

This editor will also be at the forefront of our efforts to rethink and remake national coverage, while recruiting the most promising, diverse talent. There is a strong internal candidate for this position, but we are interested in hearing from editors with a passion for national news.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé with links to their work and a cover letter outlining the experience they would bring to the position to our jobs portal by Jan. 21. Your cover letter should be addressed to Managing Editors Steven Ginsberg, Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
