Job Description:

The Dual Language Program Coordinator (English/Spanish) is responsible for aligning and coordinating dual-language programs in ACPS, proving leadership and expertise on dual language education curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices, ensuring staff quality through recruitment and professional learning, and engaging in family and community outreach and education. The Dual Language Program Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of the Office of English Learner Services and supervises dual-language coaches/specialists. S/he will have a high level of knowledge about research-based instructional strategies, second language acquisition, Spanish language arts standards, curriculum and assessment, as well as instructional best practices, modeling, coaching, and professional development in the area of dual language education. The Program Coordinator will have excellent oral, written and communication skills, have a high level of data literacy, be capable of managing multiple tasks, work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, and support community outreach efforts. S/he will be bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish.

Requirements:

Education: Postgraduate professional degree.

Certificate/License: Valid Virginia Department of Education License or ability to obtain one.

Experience:
  • Experience as a teacher or administrator in a dual-language program.
  • Experience in aligning curricula and assessments with standards, and familiarity with developing units and lessons with the end goal in mind.
  • Knowledge of dual language structures and guiding principles, Spanish language arts standards, and pedagogical practices in dual language programs.
  • Knowledge of current research and promising new practices in dual language education, existing and emerging local, state, and national resources, and ESSA accountability systems.
  • Expertise in analyzing student data and using results to adjust the taught curricula to improve student achievement.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently; establish and maintain project deadlines; and travel to various locations.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and interpersonal relationship skills are necessary to work effectively with parents, teachers, administrators, and central office personnel.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Bilingualism and bi-literacy in English and Spanish.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure division-wide alignment of dual language programs, coordinating efforts to standardize policies and procedures, and monitoring implementation.
  • Research national trends, guiding principles and best practices in dual language program development, implementation, and evaluation provide leadership and effectively communicate information to central office personnel, principals, teachers, students, parents, and community members.
  • Represent the dual language program in school and division decision-making.
  • Lead development of the next dual-language strategic plan, utilize the strategic plan to guide essential work and develop short and long-term action plans that reflect program goals and stakeholder input.
  • Lead the development and refinement of curricula and assessments aligned with achievement and language standards.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of bilingual, bi-literate teachers.
  • Coordinate recruitment of new students, conduct informational sessions for prospective families and ensure staff responsible for program placement is knowledgeable about the dual-language programs.
  • Create a comprehensive and ongoing professional development plan for schools that aligns competencies necessary for dual language staff with school and division priorities.
  • Develop and implement a training program for all new staff, on the fundamentals of dual language and specific information relevant to the dual-language programs in ACPS.
  • Collaborate with instructional coaches, specialists, and other leaders to support the development of high-quality instructional pedagogy and school-wide professional development initiatives.
  • Coordinate the inventory, ordering, and maintenance of instructional materials in the dual-language programs.
  • Collaborate with data specialists to produce dual-language academic achievement and language data reports to inform program and instructional decision-making, analyze data and convey results to stakeholders.
  • Monitor dual language programs for compliance with federal, state, and dual-language program requirements.
  • Engage in family and community outreach and education, working with parent/family liaisons to develop a parental understanding of and support for dual language program goals.
  • Communicate frequently with parents to update them on dual language program happenings, to identify community resources, and to help families support their student's academic growth.
  • Organize activities to gather families together to reinforce the cross-cultural goals of the program.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance:
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
