Director, Risk Management - Risk Assessment

As a Director, Risk Management in Capital One's Enterprise Services Risk team you will be responsible for working with technology, cyber, and other teams in both the first and second lines of defense to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One, applying your risk or process management and analytical skills to help Enterprise Services continue to drive well-managed risk activities. Risk Management Directors at Capital One are highly motivated risk and process management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. These skills allow the Director to gain insights, and act as a change agent to influence their business partners. A successful risk and process manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws, regulations, processes and associated controls, and good risk management practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.

Directors have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within Enterprise Services.

The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated risk or process management professional with excellent process improvement and communication skills. The candidate will be detail-oriented and results focused, and will have a proven record of problem solving and collaborating with others, including direct and indirect leadership positions.

Tasks and Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for leading key risk assessment processes for Enterprise Services, including Divisional and Business Unit level Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA), Product Risk Assessments (PRA), Scenario Analysis, and reporting the results of these assessments in various highly visible forums and reports including the Tech Risk Report, Quarterly Examiner Reviews (QER), and the Tech Risk Monthly Business Review (MBR)
  • In partnership with Technology Risk Management (TRM), responsible for leading the first line methodology and administration of Capital One's cyber and technology risk taxonomy, including assisting with setting RCSA and Process Level Assessment (PLA) diagnostics and other requirements, consultation with all other divisions on cyber and technology risk scoping and sizing, administration of centralized control and mitigation guidance to the rest of the enterprise, and aggregation of process level to entity level risks to ultimately inform reporting to senior stakeholder such as the Capital One Board of Directors
  • Ability to collaborate with process and risk owners and Accountable Executives to influence results that have a direct impact on the company's bottom line. This is a critical role with high visibility across the Enterprise Services' organization and first line risk offices and second and third lines across the enterprise.
  • Possesses extensive risk management experience and knowledge of processes, risks, requirements, controls and testing, coupled with a balanced approach to driving effectiveness and efficiency to enhance both business and risk management processes and programs.
  • Develops strategies to improve risk management, risk reporting and analysis using data and technology
  • Drives collaboration with cross functional team structures and across various risk programs and business areas
  • Possesses extensive project delivery experience and a proven track record of driving large programs of multi-dimensional scope successfully
  • Known for strong quantitative background to support data-informed decision making
  • Collaborative, team player attitude with the ability to navigate and influence the organization with influence and communication skills that can positively drive transformational change, and adapt to dynamic environments
  • Participate in risk and other management forums and contribute to continuous improvement of risk and project / program management practices.
  • Sets direction, manages expectations, and may lead cross-functional teams through various initiatives, including oversight of third party resources.
  • Support interactions with Internal Audit and Regulatory agencies related to our work, as applicable.
  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis
  • Manages a growing team with three (3) to five (5) total reports


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in Risk Program, Project Management or a combination
  • At least 8 years of experience in risk management, compliance, legal, regulatory, operations or a combination
  • At least 5 years of People Management experience
  • At least 5 years of information technology or cybersecurity experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 12 years experience in Risk Program, Project Management or a combination
  • 10 years of technology risk management experience
  • 3 years of Financial Services industry experience
  • Masters Degree
