Duties

  • You will practice law predominantly in the area of federal procurement and manage extensive and challenging acquisition portfolios, including major weapons systems that are critical to the future of the Department of the Navy
  • You will provide Legal advice and counsel in the form of oral advice and written opinions, documents, and clauses in the field of business and commercial matters
  • You will provide advice and opinions involving all aspects of procurement from solicitation to final contract close out, including legal advice and counsel in the form of oral advice and written opinions involving fiscal law matters.
  • You will participate in litigation and litigation support involving Civilian Personnel Law, procurement, acquisition integrity and Environmental Law

Qualifications

GS-11 level, the applicant must have at least one year of professional legal experience, or be a recent law school graduate with superior law student work or activities as demonstrated by: graduating in the top third of their law school class; work or achievement of significance on an official law review or journal; or a special high-level honor, e.g., winning a moot court competition, membership on the law school's official moot court team, or membership in the Order of the Coif

GS-12: the applicant must have two years of relevant professional legal experience at the GS-11 (or equivalent) level or be a current GS-12 (or equivalent) attorney within the Federal government.

Note that for GS-11 and GS-12 positions only, a second professional law (LLM) degree (LL.M.) that required at least one full academic year of graduate study may be substituted for one year of professional legal experience.

GS-13: the applicant must have in excess of two years of relevant legal experience.

GS-14: the applicant must have at least three-and-one-half years of relevant legal experience.

GS-15: the applicant must have at least five-and-a-half years of relevant legal experience..

Education

Law Degree and Bar Membership: Incumbent must have graduated from a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association, must be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia, and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court, of good character; and in full compliance with continuing legal education requirements of an appropriate bar.

This position is eligible for ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
