Duties

The Department of Commerce (DOC), Office of Secretary (OS), Office of The Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is seeking Volunteer Internship candidates in the below areas:

Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO, Security Analyst, or Information Assurance Analyst Volunteer Interns: (7 positions)
  • Pursuing technology/ security background. The following security disciplines will improve candidate's knowledge in security standards maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), FISMA, FIPS and DOC guidance, policy, and standards.

Project Management Volunteer Interns: (3 positions)
  • In areas of business analysis, proposal reviews and governance. Seeking candidates pursuing finance/business backgrounds.

Information Technology (CTO) Volunteer Interns: (10 positions)
  • Technology Adoption
  • Technology exploration and improvement.

IT interns will also be exposed to the below disciplines:
  • Image Recognition & Analysis
  • Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning
  • Natural Language Processing

Communication Volunteer Interns: (2 positions)
  • In graphic design, video editing, public relations and marketing. Seeking candidates pursuing finance/business and technology backgrounds.

Business Process Reengineering and Budget Formulation Volunteer Interns: (2 positions)
  • Pursuing finance/business and technology backgrounds.

Information Technology (Application Digital Services (ADS)) Volunteer Interns: (10 positions)
  • Develop cloud infrastructure support
  • Leverage cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS/Google etc.) to provide a scalable and secure infrastructure platform.
  • Use off-the-shelf solutions to address pressing needs.
  • New Software Development
  • Develop customized software solutions for DOC needs.

Interns will be exposed to the following IT disciplines in ADS:
  • Geo-location
  • Cloud Services
  • Big Data Analysis
  • Quantitative Analysis
  • Cyber Security Best Practices
  • 3D/2D data visualization
  • Deployable Technologies
  • CI/CD Containerization
  • Mobile Development
  • Software Engineering Best Practices
  • Knowledge Extraction
  • Agile Methodology

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be suitable for Federal employment.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov).
  • Meet security requirements.
  • 2.5 GPA or above.
  • Being able to commit 10 hours a week.
