Duties

  • Serve as security specialist responsible for implementing an agency wide physical security program.
  • Responsible for conducting investigations, recommending and/or taking appropriate corrective action, and preparing reports of investigation.
  • Studies, interprets and adapts security-related regulations, precedents and instructions and determines their compliance within applicable DoD and agency regulations.
  • Plans, develops, and implements physical security policies and procedures affecting programs and operations and ensuring protection of agency personnel, material, and equipment.
  • Evaluates security programs and where issues are not solved by accepted standards, develops solutions to security problems.
  • Provides technical advice, policy clarification, assistance and direction to ensure programs associated with the protection of classified information (SCI) are properly maintained and administered.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade
GS-11within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience is defined as experience developing and directing the execution of all information, physical, and industrial security activities in support of the agency.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level.

Individuals occupying positions designated as DSPs are required to meet certification requirements of the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) program. As such, the individual selected for this position must obtain and/or maintain a Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC). Individuals who do not meet the applicable SPeD certification requirements must obtain it within two years after the first duty day in this position. Upon appointment to this position, the selectee must also sign a statement acknowledging the SFPC requirements, as a condition to occupy the position, and agree to permit the DoD to access and monitor the certification qualifications associated with this position.
