JOBPerforms ongoing sales activities for the Tourism division. Involves assisting in the implementation of the overall marketing effort and duties relative to the development of tourism for the County. Develops and implements a multi-year marketing plan and the annual advertising sales and publicity activities of the Tourism division. Promotes the efforts of the part time staff towards retaining visitors for an overnight stay.EXAMPLE OF DUTIESAssists in the development and implementation of the multi-year marketing and social media plan and the annual advertising sales and publicity activities of the Tourism Division.Serves as Administrator of the State of Maryland Department of Commerce, Maryland Tourism Development Board Destination Marketing Grant. Collaborates with division staff to identify and aid with the placement of advertisements and marketing media. Manages and updates photo inventory for promotional materials for the division. Identify photo needs for marketing materials and coordinate photoshoots with business partners, attractions and internal departments as appropriate. Develops itineraries and advertising concepts including the copy and call-to-action in collaboration with division staff.Oversees sports tourism/ fishing tournaments by negotiating contracts, communications and tournament logistics with Major League Fishing and the Department of Natural Resources. Facilitator of the Tourism Community Grant and corresponds directly with community partners to communicate grant cycle information and with the budget office to administer funds.Participates in meeting, business visits, on boards and committees as assigned.Works with tourism division staff to write blog and develop newsletter and website content that is timely, relevant, and consistent with tourism brand.Promotes special events and activities by updating Maryland Office of Tourism website and various other media outlets as assigned.Works on county specific special events, activities and initiatives that are designed to increase tourism to the county.Manage media relations by participation in meetings with Maryland Office of Tourism, Public Relation pose itineraries and familiarization tours for travel writers and journalist as required. Manages the organization of tourism data including accommodation tax, STR Report and Sales and Use Tax reportsManages the Crain Memorial Welcome Center and Historic Port Tobacco Staff and the daily operations. Ensure content on website and Maryland Office of Tourism website is accurate and current.Serves county liaison for attending meetings and seminars and shares communications with division. Creates local tourism projects including brochure development, tourism research and reports, calendar of events and festivals.Coordinates the fulfillment of all requests for visitor information that have come in by phone, fax, email or in person and inputs these requests into the departmental computer database.Assist with administration of the tourism and welcome center budget, generating requisitions, ordering online, and tracking expenditures.Assists with the preparation of reports of activity and presentations.Negotiates contracts with media including, international, national publication, radio & television and directs the development of artwork and placements.Coordinates with division to plan marketing materials for outreach initiatives and travel trade shows and identifies and attends field specific training and seminars.Performs other related job duties and provides staff assistance as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, or related field. Two (2) years of experience in marketing, travel, and tourism; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license.Special Requirements/Qualifications: Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.Required to travel to trade shows and tourism related events.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of media relations, advertising placement and marketing techniques.Knowledge of access and computer databases.Graphic design experience not required but preferred.Ability to follow through on matters and uses independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with others encountered in the work.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is partly sedentary with periods of moderate physical activity.
