Small Business Financial Advisor The George Mason University Mason Enterprise Center and the Community Business Partnership (CBP) invites applications for a Small Business Financial Advisor. About the CBP: The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason University's Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development. Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2019, CBP's fourteen member staff and two dozen volunteers created 317 business training events with 3,854 attendees. These events led to over 673 individuals receiving almost 1,000 hours of one-on-one business counseling. Those activities resulted in 56 new businesses as well as the creation/retention of over 600 jobs. The CBP hosts a Women's Business Center, a Small Business Development Center (SBDC), a Business Finance Center, a Business Incubation Center, and a Community Development Financial Institute in a single location. The CBP delivers entrepreneurial skills training and provides specialized support services, including one-on-one counseling services, networking events, three small business conferences annually, extensive referral network, small business incubator services, and access to capital.About the Position: The Small Business Financial Advisor will provide financial advisement and counseling to small business owners in the DMV area. They will be responsible for working with high-growth potential small businesses who need help with (but not limited to) obtaining large loans, grants, and opening up lines of credit. This position would ideally be for someone coming from or knowledge with C & I (Commercial & Industrial) lending. However, any financial advisor who can support small businesses in areas of business planning, financial projections, lending procedures, and other financial matters will qualify and should apply. The Advisor will collaborate with the SBDC Director in connecting existing and prospective clients to the center and their resources.Responsibilities: Advise and provide 1-1 and group counseling to existing and prospective small business owners;Work with high-growth potential clients in their financial matters in areas of (but not limited to) preparing and finalizing business plans, financial statements, loan/grant proposals, etc.;Represent the SBDC at CBP in the business community and help connect clients to the center and with regional small business resources, service providers, and those in the financial community;Setup and conduct advisement sessions via Zoom, email, phone call, and in-person;Develop and maintain a database of resources/assistance services and client-notes for small businesses, and particularly regarding financial matters;Input client-notes onto CIC (Center IC), SBDC's Client Portal; andEstablish procedures for client follow-up and case management system for long term clients. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related fields (4+ years) comparable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience;Minimum of 10-years' experience in finance, banking, and related areas;Has access to and maintains a network and strong relationship with high-growth potential small businesses in Northern Virginia;Understanding of the loan application and acquisition process (especially for commercial and industrial clients);Experience working with lenders, banks, or the government for financial matters over $500k;Experience in counseling and providing support to small business owners in various financial areas; andExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Preferred Qualifications:Ability to scout small businesses who are looking to apply/obtain grants or loans of $500k or more; Experience in small business ownership, management, financing, investing, or consulting; andExperienced with Zoom, CIC (Center IC, client portal).
