Executive Assistant, Law & Economics Center George Mason University's, Law & Economics Center (LEC) at the Antonin Scalia Law School is searching for an Executive Assistant, LEC who will be responsible for supporting the Law & Economics Center's Executive Director. About the Position:The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the Law & Economics Center's Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling a wide range of administrative and executive support related tasks, will be exceedingly well organized and flexible. This individual must be able to function effectively in a variety of roles, with a particular focus on development, within a dynamic environment under minimum supervision. Expert communication, proofreading, organizational, and information systems skills are critical, as is having an overall understanding of the goals and objectives of the Law & Economics Center and its Executive Director.The mission of the Law & Economics Center is to serve as a nexus for research and education focused on economic analysis of the legal and public policy issues confronting policymakers. Since its inception in 1974, the LEC has recognized the importance of timely, relevant research on public policy matters, as well as the need to communicate research findings to those who shape policy decisions. The LEC is committed to developing original, high-quality law and economics research and education programs that enhance economic understanding and provide a consistent, rational voice that bolsters today's policy discussions.Responsibilities:General Executive SupportAssists the Executive Director with their daily schedule and duties, to include managing their calendar, commitments, and travel arrangements (planning itineraries, developing agendas and meeting materials, arranging meeting facilities, reporting expenses, etc.);Records, transcribes, and distributes notes/minutes of meetings;Prepares, edits, proofreads, and when appropriate, responds to both internal and external correspondence on the ED's behalf;Screens all incoming calls, provides responses, and re-directs when necessary;Processes and ensures ED's expenses are processed in a timely and error free manner;Maintains ED's contacts;Develops procedures for all follow-through and follow-up tasks and responses;With LEC administrative assistant, keeps Executive Director and Chief of Staff apprised of all office matters needing attention;Maintains list of all items due to Executive Director from staff of varying levels, communicates regularly to Chief of Staff of follow-up with staff to ensure deadlines and expectations of work are met; andReceives and interacts with visitors of Executive Director, arranging amenities for guests, as necessary.Academic SupportAs related to Executive Director's academic responsibilities role, the EA will organize class notes, edit presentations, and assist with preparations for classes, and other academic projects, as necessary.Development SupportExecutive Assistant will work with LEC Development Staff to ensure the ED has necessary reporting, background information, to execute development tasks which include:Regularly communicating with LEC Development team and COS on ED's tasks that are in process, to be done, and completed;Ensuring correspondence for Executive Director signature, is properly handled and executed;Communicating deadlines to/from the Development team;Regularly communicating with donors and potential donors;Tracking correspondence; andProviding back-up materials for callbacks and meetings.Office AdministrationTrains and supervises part-time or student, paid, or unpaid/volunteer secretarial or clerical staff to assist with development activities;Serves as a role model to LEC staff, modeling professional behavior and cultivating staff to meet organizational goals;Serves as Search Committee Chair for LEC staff searches to ensure open positions are posted and candidates are screened in an efficient and productive manner; andAs necessary, leads and/or participates in other LEC projects as directed by ED or COS.Required Qualifications:Excellent verbal and written communication, proofreading, planning, organizational, and information systems skills;Enjoys supporting executive management and ensuring all tasks and deadlines are met;Professional appearance and manner;Extremely detail-oriented;Well-developed interpersonal communication skills;Ability to support robust fundraising activities;Ability to manage relationships with LEC, Scalia Law, and George Mason University staff, donors and potential donors, as well as external service providers;Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines;Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);Ability to lift 15 - 20 lbs.; andBachelor's degree or equivalent experience and demonstrated previous experience in office management.Preferred Qualifications:Considerable (typically 4+ years) of executive assistant experience in an academic or legal environment;Committed to, and enthusiastic about, the mission and vision of the Law & Economics Center;Ability to work independently and take initiative;Results oriented;An adaptable, flexible problem-solver;Discreetly handles all business;Team-focused individual, who enjoys working as part of an active group of highly engaged individuals, sharing information readily with co-workers, and listening to and respecting others; able and willing to assist co-workers in the development of their own professional skills in order to ensure the team's success; andPresents a high degree of maturity, honesty, trust, sophistication, and integrity and cultivates these qualities in others.
