Job Announcement

Works with a diverse multilingual population of court referred clients who have been charged/convicted of impaired driving offenses. Specific duties include

  • Provides intake for clients, prepares and presents cases in court, counsels clients and conducts investigations.
  • Monitors client progress and make referrals as needed.
  • Writes intake summary on each client interviewed.
  • Conducts case management duties to include monitoring of ignition interlock and administration of alcohol breath tests.
  • Writes and prepare reports to the courts, clients and treatment providers.
  • Testifies in court on noncompliant cases, makes appropriate recommendations when requested by the judge.

NOTE: The actual work site for this position will be at the Burkholder Building on 10700 Page Avenue, Fairfax, VA.

Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) Case Management Services
  • Works with court referred clients who have been charged/convicted of impaired driving offenses and first time drug offenders;
  • Maintains a caseload of court referred and volunteer clients;
  • Interviews clients during intake process and assigns appropriate program classification;
  • Writes intake summary on each client interviewed;
  • Conducts case management duties to include monitoring of ignition interlock and administration of alcohol breath tests;
  • Monitors clients progress and make referral as needed;
  • Writes and prepares reports to the courts, clients and treatment providers;
  • Testifies in court on non-compliant cases, make appropriate recommendations when requested by the judge;

  • Ability to prepare complete case records and reports;

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social/behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or education plus two years of professional experience in probation work, social work, criminal justice, juvenile justice, education, or counseling. A master's degree in the disciplines above may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in case management as a Probation Counselor.
  • Knowledge of court operations and procedures.
  • Understanding of laws pertaining to substance abusers and impaired drivers.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and consistently, both orally and in writing.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and Child Protective Services Registry check.
  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs will still be subject to the weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use keyboard driven equipment. Ability to lift up to 5 pounds. Ability to communicate clearly with customers. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
