Senior Director, Software Engineering (Re-Imagined Servicing)

As Tech leader, you will partner with Product and Strategy in breaking ground on providing our customers with amazing, proactive and connected experiences both on existing use cases and with provision for growth and evolution of our business. You will provide engineering thought leadership while motivating a growing number of teams to trail blaze where they've not gone before. You will lead in building secure, efficient, performant and scalable solutions in an iterative, high-quality manner.

As you deliver on re-imagined solutions, you will also nurture an inclusive, enabled, and engaged culture that unleashes your teams to focus on tech solutions. You will forge strong relationships across Channels, Card, and Capital One to facilitate your scope and contribute back horizontally to help your peers across the company. You will encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity of thought.

What you will need to bring for this position:

  • Highly technical background as a software engineer with progressive advancement as an engineering people leader
  • A background in enterprise scale software systems and cloud based computing (AWS preferred)
  • Passion for disruptive innovation, creativity and solutioning beyond the confining walls of what's been done before
  • Experience with workflow, rules engines, machine learning and other enabling technologies
  • A full stack of experience from front end through to databases, messaging systems and real-time distributed processing, with at least some recency in modern cloud native solutions
  • Strong people skills founded on trust and people investments
  • Flexibility to learn and throw away while optimizing and leveraging lessons learned
  • The ability to thrive in a fast moving, ambiguous and consensus driven environment
  • Past experience in customer servicing technology or delivering disruptive innovations in a startup environment is a plus


Responsibilities:

  • Evangelize the tech principles and outcomes in delivering re-imagined, cross channel, proactive and connected experiences to our customers
  • Nurture and grow tech leadership on your team to scale leverage
  • Partner with your Product, Strategy and other counterparts in a feedback valued, consensus driven environment
  • Attract, recruit and grow diverse talent focusing on inclusion and belonging to build trust
  • Maintain a high bar for security, efficiency, resilience, and quality even as you deliver in small, quick iterations
  • Understand, champion and implement Enterprise and Card-wide initiatives into your team's tech delivery
  • Create and adopt and measure metrics that outline success
  • Provide transparency to your associates/peers/counterparts incorporating their feedback into your leadership
  • Involve yourself in horizontal Card and Enterprise initiatives to support overall organizational leverage
  • Champion your team's needs and clear obstacles while minimizing disruption to your team



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 9 years' experience in software engineering development
  • At least 7 years' experience building and leading engineering teams



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree
  • 15+ years' experience in software development
  • 8+ years' experience in Agile practices
  • 8+ years' experience building software in an enterprise environment
  • 3+ years' experience with Amazon Web Services
