Duties

Position is located within the Assistant Administrator for NextGen, ANG-1; NAS Systems Engineering & Integration Office, ANG-B; Systems Analysis & Modeling Division, ANG-B7; Business Case Integration and NAS Modeling Branch, ANG-B71. The incumbent is an Operations Research Analyst in the Business Case Integration and NAS Modeling Branch and is a key part of a team that is responsible for evaluation and interpretation of operational impacts and benefits from NextGen improvements.

Performs a mixture of basic, routine, and progressively more difficult, assignments under the close direction of a manager, project manager, team leader or more experienced technical specialist. The work focuses on historical operational performance analysis of the NAS, quantifying shortfalls, and estimating benefits of future capabilities. Works with other employees to plan, develop, execute innovative techniques to estimate and monetize operational impacts and benefits of NextGen.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

Assists staff and senior personnel in the development of new and existing software tools, analytical models, and data structures as needed to support quantitative performance assessments, benefit analyses, and business case analyses.

Collect, validate, and analyze operational data for historical data analyses, quantify shortfalls, and calibrating baselines for modeling analyses; conduct statistical and exploratory analyses, as needed.

Applies computer science methods and techniques to parse and manipulate large data sets.

Applies basic technical knowledge applicable to operations analysis to accomplish assignments. Typical assignments may include: collecting, recording, and analyzing data/information and identifying problems.

Develops and maintains technical proficiency through training and by reading current literature.

Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with a manager and other employees to share information, provide data and/or written analyses, and to discuss the status of assignments. Limited contact may also occur with the public and contractors, under supervision.

Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.

Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion for all aspects of quality.

Work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to activities of the organizational unit.

Basic Requirements:

A degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
