Duties

• Identify complex force management problems to be studied.
• Ensure authorization documents are in compliance with programmed resource levels before approving their publication.
• Provide leadership in the analysis of problems involving issues in force design work.
• Utilize complex operations research (OR) techniques to provide analysis on decision impacting programs.
• Establish guidelines for implementation of force and manpower management software updates.
• Provide analytical capabilities support through special skills in modeling utilizing complex operations research techniques.
• Collaborate with a variety of Reporting Units involved in operations research and systems analysis.
• Participate in special studies related to complex and unique force management matters.
• Represent the Directorate on headquarters force management systems and their interaction with downstream systems.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Operations Research Analyst:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in operations research; or a degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Assisting in the identification of force management problems/issues to be studied;Developing programs to assist in the analysis of force structure data; Providing analysis and improvements to a manpower resource database focusing on manpower authorizations and/or organization/structure; and Providing guidance in the analysis of problems and alternatives involving issues in force management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
