Please make sure work history and education are added correctly.Job SummaryWe are seeking a Histopathology Electron Microscopy Technician for our Insourcing Solutions site in Bethesda, MD.The following are responsibilities related to the Histopathology Electron Microscopy Technician:Coordinates work efforts and assignments with the chief of the Pathology Service in conjunction with the head of histology laboratoryStore H&E slides from previous microtomy.Perform daily check of waste containers.Keep alcohol and distilled water containers full. Empty out the formalin jars daily.Log in submitted wet tissues with date of arrival on the associate white tag then enter it in the Histo Database in numerical order.Load the tissue processor by alternating large and small (mouse) tissues in the order of oldest to newest.Perform microtomy and clean the area when the work is complete.Performs special stains as directed by head of histology laboratory and/or pathology chief.Label and assemble special stain slides.As needed, change the first of each solution on the tissue processor on the 15th of every month.Laboratory maintenance at the end of each month.Ensures that all schedules for histology are met and additional recuts and stains are performed in a timely manner.Prepare slide, perform IHC per request, troubleshoot IHC, and clean autostainer as needed.Prepare solutions/reagents, cut thick/thin sections on the ultramicrotome, and stain slides/grids.Prepare and embed tissue for TEM.Examine samples on the transmission electron microscope (TEM), records pertinent findings in database and take select micrographs.Examine tissue samples on the TEM working closely with the associated staff pathologist, and take select micrographs with a digital camera.Change filaments in the transmission electron microscopes as needed.Process specimens for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) as needed. Obtain micrographs.Label prints and write draft/final reports as required.Communicate with pathologists on technical issues.Communicate with investigators on scientific and technical issues.Collaborate with the Government to ensure service contracts are up to date and services are provided as described in the contract.Assists in providing training to new technicians, including histology theory and practice, database usage, and general laboratory practices.Monitor and report process improvements. Review and revise technical SOPs and forms.Job QualificationsEducation: Bachelor degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline required.Experience: Three to five years relevant post-educational technical experience required. Histology and Immunohistochemistry experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.Certification/Licensure: NoneIMPORTANT: A resume is required to be considered for this position.
