Position Information
The Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Behavioral Healthcare has an exciting opportunity located at the Clarendon House. Clarendon House is a community-based rehabilitation program working with adults with serious mental illness. The program provides a wide array of services to clients to include: psycho-education, advocacy and case management, medication and psychiatric care, rehabilitation programs, etc. The goal of the program is to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations and promote the highest level of community integration, recovery and independence for each individual.

  • Managing a caseload of 20-24 clients while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of Case Managers, day program staff, Psychiatrist; and a nurse;
  • Providing a wide range of case management services (financial, medical, housing and home visits);
  • Engaging clients in social and educational skill building activities to assist in the development of daily living skills to help clients function in the community;
  • Providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling;
  • Performing outreach to clients and families; and
  • Developing clinical assessments and maintaining clinical records in compliance with state and community services board regulations.

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Mental Health, or Counseling;
  • At least one year of full-time experience in human services/social services program delivery, including teaching/applying behavior management techniques, counseling, training/teaching individuals with disabilities, applying job training techniques, and/or making human services/social services referrals.
  • Meet the criteria of a Qualified Mental Health Professional- Adult (QMHP-A) or a Licensed Mental Health Provider (LMHP) per the Virginia Board of Counseling regulations within 60 days of hire. For information, please click here .
  • Additional directly related full-time experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • A Master's degree in a directly related area may substitute for up to one year of experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Special Education, Mental Health, or Counseling;
  • Experience working with the severely mentally ill; and/or
  • Experience working in psychosocial rehabilitation environments.

Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary work site. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
