Duties

  • Inspect contractor performance at owner's residence and at warehouse during packing, packaging, crating, loading, shipping, unloading, uncrating, and unpacking.
  • Ensure loading/unloading prevents damage and contract specifications are being followed.
  • Verify whether books, papers, and equipment may be shipped separately as professional items.
  • Perform damage inspections when requested by shipper or claims office.
  • Contact freight terminals on a monthly basis, checking for astray freight.
  • Inspect contractor warehouses to determine that storage methods are proper, adequate protection is provided against fire, flooding, insects, vermin, and facility is receiving adequate fire and police protection.
  • Perform witnessed weighs/reweighs on shipments as required.
  • Inspect crates and material from overseas or domestic shipment and rejects those that don't meet specifications.
  • Generate daily inspection schedule for purpose of establishing inspection requirements.

  • Incumbent in this position must be able to obtain and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Specialized Experience: One year or more experience with personal property shipping regulations and transportation background; effective written/oral communication; resolving controversial issues involved in movements; and ability to work in stressful environments.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within a designated time frame identified by the organization. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy.
  • Position may be filled as a temporary promotion, temporary reassignment or temporary change to lower grade NTE 2 Years by a current, permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions, reassignments or change to lower grades may be extended up to a maximum of eight years and may be made permanent without further competition.
  • Position may be filled as a TERM Appointment NTE 2 Years, if the candidate is not a current, permanent Army employee. TERM appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years.
