The Operation Allies Welcome (OAW), Unified Coordination Group (UCG) has been leading the whole-of-nation effort to welcome our Afghan allies and care for them while we help them resettle and integrate into communities across America. The Cultural Competency Advisor will help inform, direct and engage all OAW entities and stakeholders to ensure all programs and policies are drafted and operationalized in a culturally competent manner.

· Advise the Senior Response Official and OAW leadership on issues and policies related to cultural competency.
· Review talking points, briefing memos, proposals, and papers for consideration by the Senior Response Official and senior leadership.
· Closely coordinates with the Senior Response Official, UCG Front Office, UCG Operations & Planning Sections, DHS Policy, and interagency partners to address OAW-related issues as needed.
· Coordinate closely with Operations Section, Logistics Section and Planning Section to ensure implementation of culturally competent policies at all Safe Havens and relevant facilities.
· Review translated material to ensure accuracy and contextual relevance.


Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a current Department of Homeland Security employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment.
  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
  • The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors.
