The position will report to the Executive Director for Operations, and Community and Local Government Relations, but will also work closely with the Vice President for Government and Community Relations, the Executive Director for State Government Relations, and the Director for Federal Government Relations. Required Qualifications:Strong written and oral communication skills, on a variety of communications platforms, including social media;Ability to engage political, government, civic and business communities through a variety of communication strategies;Ability to identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and initiatives that will connect the university with elected officials and government agencies at all levels of government, as well as civic and business groups, that will fulfill the goals and objectives of the University's strategic plan; Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail;Ability to quickly acquire and communicate basic knowledge of Mason's resources, research, and areas of excellence;Strong human relations and customer service skills; Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with initiative to perform in the position with little or no supervision; andKnowledge of EMMA email marketing platform a plus.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Public Relations, Communications and Government Relations background preferable; and Substantial experience (minimum of seven years' preferred) in communications with a variety of stakeholders. Political campaign and/or media reporting experience preferred. A general understanding of the local, state, and federal political landscape and the Northern Virginia business community a plus.
