Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an experienced, innovative and strategic editor to help manage the Metro team. This is a key leadership position at The Post. In addition to coverage of the District, Maryland and Virginia, The Post's nationwide coverage of education, transportation, social issues (such as gender, religion, housing and poverty) and many other topics come from this staff.

We need an editor adept at running coverage, holding institutions to account and collaborating across many departments to ensure our stories are told in the smartest ways possible.

The position requires an ability to juggle scores of things at once and then turn on a dime to focus on the most important stories of the day.

We need a strategic thinker to help balance Metro's mission of reaching our local, national and global audience. We also need an empathetic manager who understands that journalists are multi-dimensional people.

A strong track record of producing sophisticated, urgent and vibrant coverage across several topic areas and platforms is essential.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we return to normal operations, it will not be eligible for remote work.
