Full Time

  • Maintains and repairs automotive fleet vehicles, including pickup trucks, military trucks, grain trucks; large farm equipment, tractors (gas and diesel), and more.
  • Inspects and maintains electrical systems used in conjunction with equipment, machinery and monitoring devices, including equipment specific to research projects.
  • Disassembles, repairs, and rebuilds engines, automatic and gear transmissions, differentials, electronic fuel injection systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, conventional and power steering mechanisms, and air brake systems.
  • Keeps orderly file of operator's manuals, services, and parts books.
  • Utilizing wiring diagrams, schematics, layout sheets, manufacturers' specifications, etc., disassembles equipment and makes electrical and mechanical repairs by replacing or adjusting parts.
  • Uses electrical diagrams to trace and test automotive direct current electrical systems in farm tractors and battery operated equipment components such as feed mixing scales.
  • Using electrical testing equipment, locates and tests for defects and short circuits and checks for correct voltage, amperage, resistance, etc.
  • Uses, cares for, and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and shop equipment.

  • During inclement weather (i.e., snow, ice), may be required to work outside normal work schedule.

Physical Demands: The work of the position requires crawling, bending, standing, and working in various strained positions for a considerable portion of working time; close hand-and-eye coordination in performing critical assembly and adjustment tasks, heavy lifting, pulling, or pushing of assemblies.

Working Conditions: The position being evaluated normally performs the duties inside and outside. Work inside is performed in drafty quarters and incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, and fall form slippery floors. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Outside work requires the incumbent to service cars in all types of weather and requires for on - and - off road service of vehicle.
